NJ Transit Machinist Stole 32 Freight Locomotive Horns: Feds A New Jersey Transit machinist was arrested and charged with stealing 32 locomotive air horns from multiple transportation companies, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced last month. Jeremy Hayes was charged in Roxbury Township Municipal Court in Morris County with receiving stolen property. Hayes stole the locomotive air horns from Norwalk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation, the DOT said. Meet Sussex County Town's Newly-Elected Mayor, Councilwoman It's a new era in Vernon Township. Anthony Rossi, a Republican, was elected the new mayor of the township, defeating Harry Shortway and Sally Rinker with 53.3 percent of the vote. Rossi will be replacing Howard Burrell, who served one term. A native of New York City, Rossi moved to Vernon following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, raising his three children in the township. Rossi previously worked for Citibank and JPMorgan Chase. Teen Driver Was Going 57 MPH Over Speed Limit In Verona: Police A teenager in Verona was in quite the hurry Thursday morning, Nov. 9. At 7 a.m., a police officer observed a vehicle traveling south on Pompton Avenue at a high rate of speed. The car was clocked at 87 miles per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone, police said. Burglar Enters Residence While Homeowner Asleep: Verona PD Verona police are investigating after a burglar entered a residence in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Nov. 8 and snatched a wallet, all while the homeowner was soundly asleep, authorities said. After taking the wallet from the home in the Afterglow neighborhood, the burglar then broke into a vehicle in another driveway and unsuccessfully attempted to enter a second residence through a first-floor door, police said. Newark Police Looking For Driver That Struck Pedestrian, Fled Scene (Photo) A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on Thursday, Nov. 2, Newark police said. At 8:10 a.m., police responded to Muhammad Ali Avenue and Livingston Street where a person was hit by a maroon 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan while crossing the street with family members, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. The vehicle had New Jersey registration Z59LLR, Fragé said. After striking the victim, the vehicle continued driving toward Irvine Turner Boulevard, Fragé said. Woman Pushed Out Of Vehicle In Jersey City: Authorities Police in Jersey City are investigating after a woman was pushed out of a vehicle Tuesday morning, Nov. 7, authorities said. The incident occurred following a dispute at Summit Avenue and Magnolia Avenue, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. Man, Woman Found Dead In Vehicle: Linden PD A man and woman are found dead in a vehicle on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 7, Linden police said. Officers responded to the 1900 block of E. Linden Avenue to check on a vehicle and found the occupants deceased, police said. The incident is being investigated by the Linden Police Detective Bureau and the Union County Homicide Task Force, police said. Detectives said they believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public.
