Four Arrested After Two Stolen Vehicles Recovered: Linden PD Four people were arrested in Linden last week after police recovered two stolen vehicles, police said. On Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 8:40 p.m., officers were alerted to a stolen U-Haul van traveling southbound on Route 1. Police located the van at South Stiles Street and arrested Anthony Miguel, a 30-year-old Mount Holly resident and Marcello Miguel, a 21-year-old Mount Ephraim resident, officers said. NJ For-Profit School Deceived Students, Forced To Pay $4.6 Million: State AG A for-profit school in Middlesex County is being forced to pay a $4.6 million after the state said it deceived students and offered unlawful loans. Sollers Inc. which is based in Piscataway, used false and misleading job advertisements to funnel students into its programs and falsely claimed that agreements requiring students to pledge a portion of their future income in exchange for money upfront for their programs was not a loan, Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Two Busted For Bayonne Burglary: Police Two people were arrested in Bayonne on Friday, Oct. 20 for breaking into vehicles, police said. At 5:17 a.m., police responded to West 36th Street, on the report of two men, Xzavier Harris-Williams, a 21-year-old Jersey City resident and John Wilson, an 18-year-old Bayonne resident, attempting to break into vehicles, officers said. Teterboro Airport Noise Has Gotten Worse, Says New Pascack Valley Group Fighting For residents in the Pascack Valley region, the noise from private planes flying into Teterboro Airport has become a quality of life issue. Taxpayers for Airport Noise Solutions (TANS) is a new organization that has formed to give a voice to those grievances. The group has circulated a petition, which has almost 900 signatures, requesting the FAA change the flight plans for flights into Teterboro Airport Runway 19 by having them fly over Route 17, a less residential area. Teaneck Woman Stays Calm As Husband Fights For Israel Melissa Grosman has found herself thrust into the role of military spouse. The Teaneck resident's husband, Gill, is serving in the Israeli Defense Forces, following the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas. Lodi Lotto Player Wins Big Two Bergen County lottery players bucked the odds, winning big bucks in Mega Millions and Powerball, respectively. A Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Lodi matched four numbers, plus the gold Mega number netting $10,000. The winning ticket was sold at Nick's Deli on Westminster Place. The winning numbers were 5, 6, 29, 32, 61 and the yellow ball was 20. A Powerball ticket sold in Bogota matched four numbers, plus the Power Ball, netting $50,000. NJ District Cancels Halloween Activities During School Hours The Halloween Grinch has descended on the South Orange-Maplewood School District. In a letter sent to families, Superintendent Dr. Ronald Taylor said SOMSD will not have any Halloween events during school hours, and no costumes will be worn during school hours. Elementary schools will be hosting fall/harvest festivals instead, Taylor said. New York Man Fatally Shot In Newark: Prosecutors A 60-year-old man from New York City was fatally shot in Newark on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 22, authorities said. At 3:55 p.m., Newark police responded to a shooting on the 300 block of Renner Avenue and found Vincent Anderson outside at the location suffering from a gunshot wound, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. He was pronounced dead at the scene soon after, Stephens and Fragé said. Tenafly Teen Edan Alexander Believed Among Hostages Taken By Hamas A 19-year-old man from Bergen County remains missing, and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy says he may be among the hostages taken by Hamas. Edan Alexander, of Tenafly, was serving in the Israeli Defense Forces' Golani Brigade near the Gaza Strip and has not been heard from since the attacks on Saturday, Oct. 7, Murphy previously said. Driver Who Blew Stop Sign, Struck Boy Faces Slew Of Traffic Violations In North Bergen: PD Police have charged the man who they say struck an 11-year-old boy then fled the scene earlier this week in North Bergen. Julio Seoane-Alamo, 57, was behind the wheel of the 2021 gray Ford Explorer that blew a stop sign and struck the boy at 76th Street and Hudson Avenue on Tuesday, Oct. 17, North Bergen police said.
