Escaped Inmate: Essex County Prisoner Captured After 90 Minutes, Police Say An Essex County prisoner was captured after being on the lam for 90 minutes on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 29, authorities said. The Essex County Sheriff's Office declined to disclose the name, age and reason for the prisoner's initial arrest but said officers began a search at 7 p.m. before he was taken back into custody at 8:30 p.m.

Dollar General Dinged $1.2 Million For NJ Pricing Violations: State AG Did the item at Dollar General not actually cost $1? The discount retailer chain was forced to pay a fine of $1.2 million after repeatedly engaging in merchandise pricing violations at several stores throughout New Jersey, Attorney General Matthew Platkin said. Dollar General sold a variety of merchandise that scanned at the register for higher prices than were posted where the merchandise was displayed for sale, Platkin said. Bergen County Man's Assault On Palestinian-American Wasn't Bias Crime: Cops A 31-year-old Bergen County man was arrested for assaulting a Palestinian American who said he was called a terrorist in Jersey City on Monday, Nov. 27, authorities said. At 1:30 a.m., Mo Hamzeh said on his Instagram that he was waiting on an Uber outside Grove Station when a man asked him where he was from. Hamzeh said Baltimore, and then when the man persisted, Hamzeh said he told him he was Palestinian. Jersey City 9-1-1 Dispatcher Used Job To Access Personal Info: Prosecutor A 58-year-old Jersey City 9-1-1 dispatcher was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and charged with unlawfully obtaining records and personal information, authorities said. In July, Rose Davis used her position as a telecommunications supervisor to access the information that she was not authorized to keep, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The arrest followed an investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Special Investigations Unit. Davis was charged with computer criminal activity and was released pending her first court appearance next month, Suarez said.

Winners! North Jersey Lotto Players Strike It Rich It was a lucky Tuesday, Nov. 28 for two Mega Millions players in North Jersey. Two tickets, one sold in Union County and another sold in Bergen County, matched four of the five winning numbers plus the gold Mega Ball, winning $10,000. The ticket sold in Bergen County was bought with a Megaplier, increasing the prize to $30,000. Only 12 lottery players in the country took home $10,000. The tickets were sold at A & S Discount Liquors in Linden and Rocklin's in Teaneck. The winning numbers were 27, 37, 42, 59, 61 and the gold Mega Ball was 11.

Blaze Forces Evacuation At Swan Motel: Linden PD Firefighters responded to a fire at The Swan Motel on Tuesday, Nov. 28, Linden police said. The fire was on the second floor inside a motel room and started at 10:15 p.m., police said. Occupants were safely evacuated from their room and no injuries were reported, police said. The fire was contained to the motel room and the fire was declared under control after 30 minutes, police said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, police said. The NY Giants rookie QB stopped by Wayne's Primo Hoagies on Tuesday, Nov. 28 to sign autographs. A massive cement truck decked out in Christmas lights briefly stole the show. Intoxicated Jersey City Man Roaming Bayonne Apartment Building Had Cocaine, Knife: Cops A 47-year old Jersey City man was arrested on Monday, Nov. 27 after police in Bayonne said he had drugs on him, along with a "shank type" blade. At 12:32 p.m., police spotted Rubin Jackson roaming the halls of an apartment building at Avenue C and 32nd Street, officers said. Jackson could not explain why he was inside the building and officers believed he was under the influence of an intoxicant, police said. A search of Jackson yielded cocaine, narcotics paraphernalia, and the blade, police said. Police said Jackson "could not provide an acceptable justification for possessing" the blade. …

Double Fatal: 2 Dead In West Orange Crash (Developing) Two people were killed in a car crash in West Orange on Tuesday, Nov. 28, authorities said. The crash occurred at Northfield Avenue between Old North Avenue and Gregory Avenue, West Orange police said. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said they are leading the investigation into the fatal crash. According to CBS New York, the driver may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision.
