Read To A Dog At The Ridgewood Public Library RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Kids can practice their reading out loud skills at the library's Read to a Dog program this fall. Starting at 4 p.m. on Sept. 3, readers and pre-readers can spend 15 minutes reading to Spud, a lovable puggle, and his owner. Pre-readers must be able to explain the events happening in a storybook, even if they are unable to read the words. Woodcliff Lake Proposes Plastic Bag Ban WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. — Plastic shopping bags may soon be banned from Woodcliff Lake stores, northjersey.com reports. The council proposed an ordinance that would prohibit retailers from using plastic bags for customer purchases. Instead, stores would be required to provide reusable bags, compostable plastic bags and paper bags.  A public hearing on the ordinance will be held at the Sept. 8 council meeting. Program Offering Tuition Credits To Pascack Valley Volunteers PASCACK VALLEY N.J. -- The New Jersey Volunteer Tuition Credit Program is offering firefighters and emergency medical volunteers assistance with their post-secondary education while helping participating municipalities in Pascack Valley retain and recruit them. Montvale and Woodcliff Lake recently approved resolutions earmarking their support of the program, which gives volunteers serving their town for at least four years the opportunity to earn tuition credit. The volunteer, spouse or dependent children will receive tuition credit of $600 at the end of each year -- with a maximum of $2,400 …

Cresskill Resident Tracy Morgan Returns To SNL CRESSKILL, N.J. -- Resident Tracy Morgan will host "Saturday Night Live" on Oct. 17. The former SNL cast member and star of the award-winning TV series "30 Rock" has been in recovery from a traumatic brain injury sustained in an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike last year.
