Yorktown Emergency Services Display Work On Special Day YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- The 2nd Annual Yorktown Emergency Services & Truck Day will be held in Yorktown Heights on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 12 to 5 p.m. The event will be hosted by Yorktown Heights Engine Company No. 1, and the activities will include live demonstrations with helicopters, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, other equipment and town trucks. Admission is free, and the rain date for the event is Sunday, Sept. 13. The event will take place at 1916 Commerce St., Yorktown Heights. Click here for more information.

Saxophonist Jimmy Greene Performs In Danbury DANBURY, CONN. — Acclaimed saxophonist Jimmy Greene and his quartet will headline an evening of “Summer Breeze Jazz” on Friday at Ives Concert Park on the Western Connecticut State University Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury. The concert, which will begin at 7 p.m., is part of Newtown Savings Bank Fine Arts and Family Series, with performances from trumpeter Dominick Farinacci and vocalist Gregory Generet. State Police Remind Fairfield Residents About Back-To-School Safety FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- State Police urge drivers, parents and children to prepare for back-to-school safety as more than a half-million Connecticut children head back to school. Wayne Police Target DWI Drivers In National Crackdown WAYNE, N.J. -- Wayne police again are participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)'s nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" crackdown campaign running through Sept. 7. The federally-funded campaign is designed to raise public awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving and to help reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road, which will save lives. Njdot Announces Route 208 Repavings In Glen Rock, Hawthorne, Wyckoff, Frank WYCKOFF, N.J. — The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recently announced the start a three-month project to improve Route 208 in both directions and on the on/off ramps in Glen Rock, Hawthorne, Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes and Oakland. The NJDOT said the start date would be around August 20.The workdays are scheduled to take place on Mondays through Saturdays, with work performed primarily on overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. NJDOT plans to close one traffic lane at a time on Route 208 to accommodate the work required and maintain traffic flow. Street Improvement Project In Leonia Underway LEONIA, N.J. -- The Christie Heights Street Improvements Project is set to begin next week, northjersey.com reports. The $245, 439 effort will repave the pot-holed road on Christie Heights St. as well as its curbs and sidewalks over the next few months. Fort Lee-based company Reggio Construction Inc. will perform the milling and paving, which will extend from Broad and Grand avenues and touch part of the middle school campus. Tiny Free Library Installed For Busy Englewood Commuters ENGLEWOOD, N.J. — In an effort to increase public access to books, the Friends of the Englewood Public Library will install a tiny free library on the corner of Dean Drive and Demarest Avenue in Englewood for a three-month trial period, northjersey.com reports. The tiny free library will be a freestanding over-sized mailbox that holds books that people can borrow.
