Jersey City Woman Used Housing Authority Funds For Own Benefit: Prosecutors A 53-year-old Jersey City woman was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 10 and charged with using funds for her own benefit from the Jersey City Housing Authority, prosecutors said. Tyest Bryant, in her capacity as a resident board member for the Booker T. Washington Housing Complex misused over $20,000 in funds for her personal benefit between 2017 and 2022, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Killer Who Waited On Victim's NJ Porch To Shoot Him Convicted: Prosecutor A 55-year-old North Carolina resident was convicted in the June 2021 shooting death of Renown Wilson, a 55-year-old Orange resident, authorities said. James Height was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter in the first degree on Wednesday, August 9 following a two-week trial in Essex County Superior Court, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Sunglasses Totaling Nearly $1K Snatched In Strong-Arm Robbery At Newport Centre: Authorities A man made off with three pairs of sunglasses worth $952 in a strong-arm robbery at Newport Centre on Wednesday, Aug. 9, authorities said. At 9:30 p.m., police were called to the Sunglass Hut, Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. An employee said he told a man the store was closed, but the man forced his way through the front doors, shoved the employee and stole the sunglasses, Wallace-Scalfione said. No weapons were used or displayed, and no injuries were reported, Wallace-Scalfione said. The investigation is ongoing, Wallace-Scalfione said.

Legionnaire's Outbreak Probed In Bergen, Passaic Counties: State Health Officials The New Jersey Department of Health announced is investigating a possible cluster of Legionnaires' disease in Passaic and Bergen Counties, officials announced this week. The state DOH said Wednesday, Aug. 9 there were nine confirmed cases in Passaic County and one in Bergen County. The onset of symptoms occurred from May to August. An investigation is ongoing as to what caused the possible outbreak, the NJDOH said.
