Florida Man Sentenced In BJ's Shooting That Killed Jersey City Dad: Prosecutors A 38-year-old Florida man was sentenced to 30 years in state prison on Monday, August 14, for shooting Christian Parra, a 34-year-old Jersey City dad in 2021. Passaic County Rallies Around Softball Player Battling Cancer Sofie Stokes' toughest battles are usually on the softball diamond. But now she faces an even bigger fight. Stokes, a Totowa resident, was diagnosed with b-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in July. She has undergone two surgeries and begun chemotherapy. Kentucky Woman Had Gun At Secaucus Red Roof Inn: Police A 38-year-old Kentucky woman was arrested and charged with possessing a handgun at a Red Roof Inn at Secaucus on Sunday, August 13, authorities said. At 11:35 a.m., police were patrolling the area near the hotel at 15 Meadowlands Parkway when they observed a black Chevrolet Equinox idling in the parking lot for an extended period of time, Police Chief Dennis Miller said. Burlington Opening New Location In Ramsey Burlington is opening another store in Bergen County. The retailer, formerly Burlington Coat Factory, will be opening a location in Ramsey this fall at the Interstate Shopping Center at 235 Interstate Shopping Center, it announced.
