Yonkers Woman Wins First Six-Figure Jackpot of Year at Empire City Casino YONKERS, N.Y. -- Yonkers resident "Nancy G." hit a huge jackpot to the tune of $190,860.89 on her trip to nearby Empire City Casino Saturday night, Jan. 21. Her $4 wager on the penny-denomination Wheel of Fortune slot machine in the casino's Gotham Palace at 8:57 p.m. pulled down the first six-figure jackpot of the year at the Yonkers casino, according to a release from Empire City Casino. Poughkeepsie's Lourdes, Marist Grad Now Coaching For UNH Gets 100th Win POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The University of New Hampshire Head Women's Basketball Coach Maureen Magarity, graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, landed the 100th win of her career on Thursday, Jan. 19, when the Wildcats defeated Maine in a 50-44 victory. Magarity became the fourth coach in the program's history to reach the 100-win mark, according to release from UNH. New Rochelle High U.S. History, Government Students Visit Philadelphia NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Seventy-six juniors from New Rochelle High School studying U.S. history and government recently visited Philadelphia to get a firsthand look at how the government functions. Rye Neck High School Students Apply Geometry To Holograms MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Rye Neck High School students in Joseph Perlman’s ninth-grade accelerated geometry classes recently designed and successfully created holograms. The students have been studying about the properties of trapezoids and exploring how to create projections using different angles; they applied this knowledge into making the holograms.
