Halloween activities such as trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating, parties, carnivals, or festivals with large crowds were banned in several towns. The first to do so was Bound Brook. The borough's OEM coordinator on Oct. 7 put out a memo saying trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating, hay rides, haunted houses, parties and large gatherings would not be permitted. Virtual activities, drive-thru events and family activities were allowed, though. Covid-19: Kids Can Still Go Trick-Or-Treating, Cuomo Says, Banning It Would Be 'Inappropriate' The COVID-19 pandemic won’t spoil Halloween for New York children this year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he will not ban trick-or-treating this Halloween, though he didn’t necessarily encourage parents to take their kids to their neighbors' homes to celebrate the holiday. Cuomo’s proclamation came amid speculation he could sign a new Executive Order that would force local governments to bar door-to-door trick-or-treating due to the pandemic, similar to what other officials have done across the country. “I would not ban trick-or-treaters going door to door,” Cuomo said during an interview on Ne…

Trick-Or-Treat? Nope. Springfield Nixes Door-to-Door Halloween Tradition There will be no door-to-door trick-or-treating in Springfield this Halloween. It was a difficult decision, said Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, but amid the COVID-19 pandemic, crowded streets are a way for the virus to spread.  “We’re still feeling and defeating a pandemic right now,” Sarno said. Springfield isn't the first community to call of trick-or-treating, but it is one of the earlier decision-makers. Salem, a community where much of the economy is based on Halloween and spooky activities, decided in August to draw down on activities.  Springfield is not banning Hallowe…
