Da Mata 42, passed away suddenly on Friday, April  21. He loved S.L. Benfica, a Portuguese soccer team, the New York Yankees, the New York Rangers and the New York Giants, according to his obituary. He started working for Seabra's Market on Lafayette Street when he was 16, his obituary reads. Man Seriously Injured In Construction Accident In Jersey City A man was taken to a nearby hospital in Jersey City with serious injuries after a large piece of equipment fell on him at a construction site on the morning of Thursday, May 4. Jersey City police, fire and the Office of Emergency Management all responded to the scene at 532 Summit Ave., Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said.  The intersection of Summit and Pavonia is being closed to traffic while the investigation continues, Wallace-Scalfione said. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified, Wallace-Scalfione said.

Police Kill Gunman Who Left 3 Dead Including Child In Newark (Developing) A gunman who killed a man and 7-year-old child was purportedly shot dead by police in Newark Wednesday evening, May 3, according to authorities and abc7. The Essex County Prosecutors Office said they were investigating the shooting, which occurred near Elizabeth Avenue and Meeker Avenue sometime around 8:45 p.m. The New Jersey Office of Attorney General is investigating the incident as a possible officer involved shooting, according to the Essex County Prosecutors Office.  This is a developing story.
