Westwood Eighth-Graders Utilize Chromebooks WESTWOOD, N.J. -- Ross Kreb’s eight-grade science classes at Westwood Regional Middle School utilized Chromebooks to learn how to use an online educational database for science research. Using a Google Doc research organizer, media specialist Peter Richter demonstrated the database Science Online as a source for the latest news, articles, diagrams, animations and video clips regarding the planets. Pre-screened by educators, the database is updated monthly to provide timely science information. With project guidelines provided by Krebs, students were asked to pick one planet and describe …

Powerlifting Meet Scheduled in Pleasantville PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Athletes Warehouse and Westchester Barbell Coalition in Pleasantville will host the first powerlifting meet in the Westchester area on Saturday, May 14. The meet, which was originally planned to be capped at 110 lifters, sold out so fast that there will now be 127 men and women competing in the event. Two platforms will be simultaneously used on Athletes Warehouse's 6000 square feet of turf space. The event will include the back squat, bench press and dead lift. Admission is $10 for spectators. This program is appropriate for children ages 2-5. During the hour-long session, children will play games and partake in activities to connect to nature in a fun, new way. Briarcliff Students Earn First Place At Westchester Engineering Expo BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Briarcliff Middle School’s Science and Engineering Team, Toy Squad, earned a first-place finish at the Westchester Engineering Expo at White Plains High School on April 3. “The kids did a fantastic job of making a machine out of toys that opened an umbrella in 11 steps,” said team adviser Jodi Shearer.
