Rowayton Arts Center Opens Popular Exhibit With Community Awards ROWAYTON, Conn. -- An exhibition with “Community Sponsored Awards” will open at the Rowayton Arts Center on Sunday, May 1.There will be more than a dozen sponsors and over $2,000 in prizes in seven different categories. The prizes will be awarded in seven categories. The judge is Clare Rogan, who has a doctorate from Brown University and is curator of the Davison Art Center at Wesleyan University in Middletown. Poughkeepsie Bookstore Helps Kids Create Mother's Day Cards POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Children who visit the Friends of the Poughkeepsie Public Library District’s Bookstore from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 will be able to create a Mother’s Day card with the help of store volunteers. All necessary craft materials will be provided at the store, and children will create cards under the supervision of Dutchess County artist Yvonne Laube and other Friends volunteers. Ramapo Police Hold Youth Academy Graduation Ceremony RAMAPO, N.Y. -- The Ramapo Police Department recently held the graduation ceremony for its Youth Academy's 35th class.The program, which is organized by the department's Patrol Services Unit, exposes the students to what it's like to be a police officer. It also helps to build a bond between the department and the youth in the community. Retired Spring Valley Police Officer Francis Brooke was honored during the ceremony. Brooke was an important part of the Youth Academy for many years.
